ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT TOURISM
The economic impact of Hall County’s
tourism industry recently reached a record
high of $282.9 million, helped in part by the
opening of Don Carter State Park in 2013
and Atlanta Botanical Garden Gainesville in
2015. The Lake Lanier Olympic Park had an
area impact of $7.8 million for the 12 months
ending May 2015, a figure expected to grow
in 2016 with major events like the Pan Am
Championship, the Continental Olympic
Qualifier, the Dragon Boat Festival and the
20th Anniversary of the Olympic Games.
Other visitor attractions in Hall
County include:
• Lanier Islands Resort, a world-class 1,500-
acre resort and conference center
• Road Atlanta, a 2.54-mile International
Grand Prix race course
• Elachee Nature Science Center, a 1,500-
acre nature preserve with 13 miles of
hiking and biking trails.
• Interactive Neighborhood for Kids (INK),
a hands-on children’s museum that is
developing a new 50,000-square-foot space
• A network of multi-purpose biking/
walking/running trails that connect
Gainesville’s Midtown Gateway to the
University of North Georgia Gainesville
campus and the Chicopee Woods
conservation area
