HERITAGE TREE DISTRICTS
A definable part of living in historic districts is the
preservation of heritage tree canopy. City of Anderson
requires approval before a tree is removed. The
zoning ordinance states that trees in the Heritage Tree
Districts may be removed for the following reasons:
• The tree is damaged or diseased
• The tree unreasonably restricts the economic
enjoyment of the property
• The tree is too close to buildings or utilities
• Removal is necessary in the interest of public safety
and welfare as determined by City of Anderson
and/or South Carolina Department of Transportation,
whichever jurisdiction governs.
