Mental Health Priority
Meet the Peak Resilience and Wellbeing Task Force
This past spring, Apex Town Council unanimously voted to
establish the Peak Resilience and Wellbeing Task Force in
response to growing behavioral health needs identified across
Wake County and North Carolina. The Task Force seeks to
reduce barriers to care, while addressing rising youth mental
health concerns.
Behavioral health impacts individuals, families, schools,
workplaces, and the broader community. According to
statewide and local assessments:
• More than 1 in 5 North Carolina adults experience a
behavioral health condition each year. (North Carolina
Institute of Medicine, 2025)
• Suicide remains one of the leading causes of death among
youth ages 10–18. (North Carolina Dept. of Health and
Human Services, 2026)
• Residents face barriers including cost, provider shortages,
language access, insurance complexity, and stigma. (Apex
