County Government and related county
organizations provided services to
residents. Roads were paved, recreation
activities were offered, students were taught,
and plans for the future of our community
were made. A big part of what we do is to try
to balance the small-town quality of life we
enjoy with healthy growth and a respect for
the history and culture of Appalachia. This is
partially possible because more than 50%
of the mountains are protected by the U.S.
Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
