THE RICE MUSEUM
The Rice Museum explores the vibrant history of
the rice culture in Georgetown County through
maps, dioramas, artifacts and other exhibits. Here
you will gain a deeper knowledge of a society
based upon one crop. The Rice Museum Shop
features an intriguing collection of unusual gifts,
books, jewelry, and home accent pieces, and the
Prevost Gallery attached to the Museum Shop
features rotating art exhibitions. The museum
tour includes the “Browns Ferry Vessel,” the
oldest vessel of Colonial manufacture in the U.S.;
exhibits on the history of the Kaminski Hardware
Company; Gullah history of the S.C. Lowcountry;
Miss Ruby Forsythe, one of South Carolina’s great
educators; and Joseph Hayne Rainey, the first
African-American elected to the U.S. Congress.
