             the Civil War, but the
             depot, four stores,
             the Whitman house,
             Jones house, and Evans
             house survived. Ringgold
             is where The General
             locomotive, stolen by Union
             soldiers, was recaptured by
             Confederates during the Great
             Locomotive Chase of 1862.
