Connecting the Port of Savannah by rail to North Georgia,
the Appalachian Regional Port is an inland port that provides
a powerful new global gateway for intermodal cargo. By
providing an alternative to truck transport to and from the
deep-water Port of Savannah, this innovative asset created
an efficient, invaluable pipeline to target markets in Georgia,
Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky. Each round-trip container
moved offsets 710 truck miles on Georgia highways. Currently,
the facility has a capacity of 50,000 containers annually. A ten-
year development plan is in motion to double that capacity.
