If we take care of
our environment, we
are truly taking care
of ourselves. What
better way to preserve
nature than to let the
community enjoy it in
SHAMROCK/BLALOCK RESERVOIRS
its natural state.
Bernard Franks, general
manager of the Clayton
County Water Authority
The wetlands center is an educational
and experiential facility that focuses on
informing the public about the natural
world. It is also a place where people can
come to find solace on the half-mile nature
trail and at the picnic area, Franks said.
Franks said the water authority has
big plans for the Huie Nature Preserve,
between Jonesboro and Lovejoy, that
he hopes will become 625 acres of a
preserve with camping, trails, disc golf, an
archery range, and an outdoor classroom
and play area so people can learn about
the importance of taking care of the
environment and its impact on clean,
fresh water.
The Clayton County Parks and
Recreation Department also contributes
greatly to the quality of life by providing
a robust system of parks with trails, dog
parks, and much more. The crown jewel
of the parks and recreation department,
International Park, is set to see a
massive renovation completed in 2022.
International Park features a water park
with waterslides, splashpads, and more
that offers a great way to cool off on a hot
summer afternoon.
