ANDERSONVILLE
Travel about an hour’s drive southeast of Columbus to
Andersonville, site of Camp Sumter, a prisoner of war
camp that is now Andersonville National Historic Site, a
memorial to the nearly 13,000 Union POWs who died at
the camp during the Civil War. In addition to the prison,
the site includes the Andersonville National Cemetery
and the National Prisoner of War Museum, which honors
all American POWs in the United States’ various military
