        The Columbus State University Department of
        Theatre’s Riverside Theatre Complex houses
        three state-of-the-art performance spaces for
        over 75 public theatre performances each year.

               Historic
             LIBERTY THEATRE
        Opened in 1924, Columbus’ first Black theatre
        continues to host musical events, plays, and
        classes. Placed on the National Register of
        Historic Places in 1984, the theater has hosted
        such ground-breaking performers as Marian
        Anderson, Ella Fitzgerald, and Columbus’ own Ma
        Rainey and her protégé, Bessie Smith.
