Putting Money Where
the Heart is
Local Leaders are Future-Focused on Attracting
New Business and Creating New Jobs
by Bonnie Hunter
ichmond County takes pride in creating
a business-friendly environment. This
R value is reflected in local leadership. The
Board of Commissioners has made recruiting
new business and supplying jobs to their
citizens their highest priority. The saying
goes “put your money where your mouth is,”
but Richmond County community leaders
put money where their hearts are – with the
residents and the future prosperity of this
great area. New industries are welcomed with
hospitality and guaranteed support.
County officials work to help prospects
secure a site that fits each company’s logistical
needs. With Richmond County’s convenient
location and easy access to transportation,
many organizations find doing business in the
Carolina Heartland is an operational dream
and a strategic success.
One such success story is Enviva
Pellets located in Hamlet. The Board of
Commissioners worked with the pellet
manufacturing company for more than a year
to secure an ideal site for a new operation. As a
result of this partnership, Enviva invested $107
million, built a pellet manufacturing plant in
Hamlet, and created almost 80 new jobs.
Local leaders understand a pro-active
business climate attracts quality companies.
That’s the motivation that brought Enviva to
Hamlet, and it is the same inspiration that is
evident in current county projects – such as a
government-owned shell building that, once
completed, will be a preexisting warehouse
or manufacturing site for any number of
businesses. Richmond County is proud to be
home to a wide range of employers and has
the infrastructure to support many more.
