Moving In
###
Motor vehicles purchased on or after March 1, 2013
and titled in Georgia are exempt from sales and use tax and
annual ad valorem tax, also known as the “birthday tax.” These
taxes are replaced by a one-time tax imposed on the fair
market value of the vehicle, called the title ad valorem tax fee,
paid when the vehicle is titled in Houston County.
Owners of automobiles purchased prior to March 1, 2013 must
renew their registration and pay an ad valorem tax every year
during the 30-day period which ends on their birthday. If more
than one person owns the vehicle, the birthday of the person
whose name appears first on the title determines the registration
period. For registration locations or more information, contact the
Houston County Tax Commissioner’s Tag office at 478-542-2135.
