                                                                                 well as the state. Under Georgia law,
                                                                                 the Board of Tax Assessors assesses a
                                                                                 property at 40 percent of its fair market
                                                                                 value for tax purposes. The property
                                                                                 tax is determined by multiplying the
                                                                                 assessed value of the property by
                                                                                 the appropriate millage rate, which
                                                                                 varies within the county and state. One
                                                                                 mill is equal to $1 per $1,000 of the
                                                                                 assessed value. Per the City’s charter,
                                                                                 a referendum is required to change the
                                                                                 City’s 4.731 millage rate.
