Be on the lookout for
Deep in the pine thickets and lush valleys near
Lake Lanier grow a flock of small, wild BURDS.
With their wings proudly stretched, these
distinctive creatures are no bigger than a hand
yet large with personality and perpetual mischief.
hat happens upon discovery is as mystical as the
creatures themselves. With human detection,
they freeze their movement, solidify their
W posture, and maintain an eternal gaze and
stance. Be quick, snap a picture before they disappear.
The BURD project is part of the local Vision 2030 Public
Art initiative to bring art in a variety of forms to public spaces
throughout the community. The amazing flock of BURDs placed
all around Hall County in parks, businesses, on benches and
rooftops is staggering. Locals and visitors alike enjoy searching
for the BURDs and sharing their finds on social media with the
hashtag #2030BURDS.
Art in public places is working on a grand scale and is
part of the larger Vision 2030 program bringing many facets of
quality of life, education, health and commerce to the forefront
of community dialog. Vision 2030 is a volunteer-led effort of
long-term initiatives defined by citizens to position the area as
the most enviable community in Georgia by the year 2030.
A highlight of the Public Art effort is their annual block
party held in May featuring food trucks, live music and art for
sale. Each work of art is valued at $100 or less, making owning You never know where you’ll happen
works from local artists attainable for almost every budget. upon a little BURD.
