        Georgia’s 132nd county, created in 1870
        from parts of Columbia and Warren
        counties, was named for George
        McDuffie. He was born in Georgia and
        served as a governor of and a senator
        from South Carolina.

        The McDuffie County government is
        led by a five-member elected board
        of commissioners who represent two
        districts that elected them. The City
        of Thomson is led by a mayor and a
        city council.
