Paddling on Lake Moultrie
Indian Field Methodist Campground c. 1848
Indian Field is South Carolina’s largest Methodist
campground, built in 1848 and restored in 1970.
Ninety-nine two-story, rustic wooden buildings
(called tents) encircle the central tabernacle,
where annual services take place the last week
in September. Breakfast, dinner, and supper are
cooked on wood-burning stoves in the back of
each tent.

Koger-Murray-Carroll-House c. 1800
This Federal Era clapboard home was constructed
with black cypress and rests on brick pillars laid
in the English Bond pattern. Dorchester County
Historical Society conserves this building as
one of the oldest homes in the state. Over 230
years, it was the home of three prominent state
government officials. Come for Living History
Days in November.

The Lourie Theater
See a local performance at the 1920s-era,
300-plus seat theater. Follow for community

Lake Marion Golf Course offers pine tree-lined
fairways bordering lakes and dozens of sand
bunkers. Visit the area’s largest golf pro shop,
practice on the lighted driving range, and register
for golf instruction by PGA professionals.

Santee Cooper Country Club
The sister course to Lake Marion is this 1967
George Cobb layout, with newly renovated tees
and bunkers. Players tee off among beautiful
Carolina pines and are tested along dogleg holes,
strategic bunkering, challenging par 3s, risk-
rewarding par 5s, and subtle elevation changes.

Santee National Golf Club
Lowcountry charm splashes across the terrain
of this challenging 18-hole course featuring
Bermuda fairways and greens. The course is rated
4 stars by Golf Digest’s Places to Play. Number 17,
a par three, is framed by a church and is called
Santee’s “Amen Corner.”
