Wilkesboro is a Mountain Heritage Trout Water City, a Small Town
Main Street Community, and has been the county seat since 1778, when
Wilkes County was formed. The town was incorporated in 1847 and
maintains its original layout from more than 200 years ago on the south
side of the Yadkin River, with a courthouse square, Main Street, and a
vibrant downtown.
