                                             City of Belton

        CITY OF BELTON
Welcome to The Standpipe City, and The Tennis Capital of
South Carolina - home of the Palmetto Tennis Championships,
the S.C. Tennis Hall of Fame, and the Standpipe Festival. The
        Standpipe, constructed in 1909, is a 155-foot tall, 165,000-gallon
capacity, concrete-reinforced water tank. Looking like a medieval
castle tower, it rises over the city. Only three standpipes remain in
the state, and Belton’s is the tallest.
Founded in the 19th century when the Columbia and
Greenville Railroad was built, Belton is Anderson County’s second
largest town. Belton’s historic residential areas are within walking
distance of a thriving downtown and historic Town Square.
Several oil companies are headquartered in Belton, along
with working farms and one of Anderson’s older businesses, Town of Honea Path
Clickscales Drugs, founded in 1915. Cultural and educational
facilities include Belton Center for the Arts, Belton Depot, Ruth
Drake Museum, and the Belton Library. TOWN OF HONEA PATH
The origins of Honea Path’s name are a mystery. The town may be
misspelled for William Honey, an early trapper and trader who was
granted 200 acres by Governor Pinckney in 1788. Or the Cherokee
name for path, honea, may be a double name for the place. When
the town was chartered in 1885, Honey Path was recorded in several
places, but in 1917 the town was incorporated as Honea Path.
One of South Carolina’s smallest towns, Honea Path during the
