• Things to Do
State, and six service flags, representing all
veterans – past, present, and future – both
peacetime and wartime. This memorial is
unique in that it honors the history of the
Cherokee nation as they existed in Union
County to the “Trail of Tears” depicting their
removal and the ultimate destruction of
their nation. Additionally, with malice toward
none, both Union and Confederate from
the county are recognized here. The Union
County War Memorial Veterans Park offers
a peaceful space for personal reflection,
patriotic ceremonies, and public education,
helping teach students about the brave
men and women who fought to preserve
our freedoms. Visit the memorial to
honor all veterans and help preserve
our shared history.
Equestrian and Golf
Green pastures and fields, and forested
trails with shade invite equestrians to head
out on guided horseback rides in the area’s
mountains and valleys. There are several
stables and trail ride operators, including
Stables at Brasstown Valley, Appalachian
Trail Rides, and Union County Saddle Club.
In Young Harris, Brasstown Valley
Resort & Spa’s 18-hole championship golf
course is open to non-resort guests, too,
who play on a course designed to contour
the natural terrain with mountain views like
postcard memories.
In Blairsville, Butternut Creek Golf
Course is below beautiful Ivy Log Mountain
and plays through valleys and challenging
slopes with mountain views from all 18 holes.
Old Union Golf Course weaves 18 holes
through meadows, creeks, and woods.
