H ikers, you’ll find short trails to 13-mile treks at Vogel State
Park at the base of Blood Mountain in the Chattahoochee
National Forest. In addition, the park’s Lake Trahlyta is open to
non-motorized boats. Cool off at the mountain-view beach and breathe
in the mist from Trahlyta waterfall that spills from the lake. The park’s
seasonal Civilian Conservation Corps Museum reveals how the CCC is
recognized as the beginning of American conservation 90 years ago.
See across four states on a clear day at Brasstown Bald, Georgia’s
highest peak at 4,784 feet above sea level. Visit the museum’s
interactive exhibits and commemorate the views with a keepsake from
the gift shop. Shuttle service is available seasonally.
The Reese Farm & Heritage Center ushers you into Appalachian farm
life as it was in the early 1900s by featuring the historic homestead of
renowned novelist and poet Byron Herbert Reece.
At the heart of Downtown Blairsville is the Historic Union County
Courthouse, built in 1899 and listed on the National Register of Historic
Places. Check out the military museum and mini dollhouse collection
inside, and Friday Night Concerts (seasonally) in the old courtroom.
