Just outside the city is an assortment of national
brand and locally owned stores and restaurants, car
dealerships, and grocery stores. These merchants
provide everything residents need to live life to the
fullest in Glynn County.
JEK YLL ISL AND
Once the playground of the millionaires of the
Gilded Age, Jekyll Island has become an even more
Sidney Lanier Bridge
popular vacation spot in recent years and named
in the top ten destinations in America.
Classified as a Georgia State Park, today
Jekyll Island is part historical monument,
part beach vacation hub, and part
outdoor recreation destination. The
island’s historic district shows off the
vacation mansions, called “cottages,”
built by the likes of the Rockefellers
and Goodyears, to name a couple. The
Jekyll Island Club Hotel today operates
as a historic hotel but once was the club
where the millionaires spent much of
their time while on Jekyll Island.
Beachfront hotels and resorts provide
access to miles of beaches along the
Atlantic Ocean and make for a vacation Jekyll Island Club
destination families have been returning
to for generations. Only 33 percent of the island can
be developed under state law, which means miles of
trails wind through maritime forest under the shade
of ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss. Add to
that the 63 holes of golf, the Beach Village, and the
Jekyll Island Conference Center, and it’s easy to see
why Jekyll Island truly is Georgia’s Jewel.
ST. SIMONS ISL AND
Georgia’s largest barrier island – St. Simons Island
– is loaded with charm. St. Simons Island features
more than six miles of beaches with plenty of public

access points, the popular St. Simons Pier Village
