Roy Richards

The Legendary Local Beginning of Southwire
1 in 2 homes built in the U.S. contains Southwire wiring
In 1950, Roy Richards, a Georgia Tech graduate, dug into his Carroll County roots and
started a company to bring electricity to rural areas, specifically to his grandmother.
Initially, Richards had a construction company that put up power poles and ran wire.
After running into a supply issue with the wire manufacturer, he realized there was a
demand left unmet. This unmet need was the inspirational beginning of Southwire.
The company has continued to expand in this same intuitive and innovative fashion
        for nearly 70 years.
