City of Stone Mountain
The City of Stone Mountain is a destination
unto itself with breweries, shops, and
historic charms (left). Within Stone
Mountain Park, a gondola will take you
to the top of the mountain with amazing
views of the surrounding area along the
way (right).
the lake, golf course, trails, and
incredible views.
Within Stone Mountain Park,
opened in 1965 and now one of
Georgia’s most visited destinations,
its original trail holds the footprints
of indigenous peoples who traveled
to this scenic overlook. You can
see signal trees in some areas of
the park. These are more than
200 years old and were bent in early
growth by native Americans using
sinew to create a directional elbow.
The signal trees then pointed to
important trails, sacred burial
grounds, and trading posts. Over
the decades before it was restricted,
700 personal engravings have been
carved into the granite along the
Walk Up Trail on Stone Mountain.
The city of Stone Mountain is
its own destination with festivals
year-round, including Yellow Daisy
featuring artists, and Tunes by the
Tracks featuring live music.
