of members from around the region who use the club
year-round and take advantage of its expansive operating
schedule. Back Woods is only closed three days a year,
otherwise it’s open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. seven days a week.
Groups – from bachelor parties to corporate outings and
family hunting trips to youth summer camps – use the lodging,
meal service and other amenities that make shooting and
staying on property an effortless and pleasurable experience.
Morris says one of the best ways to quantify Back
Woods’ success is through its use of sporting clays.
“We average about a million-and-a-half clay targets
annually,” Morris chuckled. “I’d say we’re pretty popular.”
While Back Woods Quail Club is a
mainstay for locals and vacationers,
the club is becoming increasingly well
known outside of the region. It regularly
hosts one or two major events each year,
which brings hundreds – and sometimes
thousands – of competitors and
spectators to the area.
In 2022, Back Woods Quail is set
to host the prestigious National
Sporting Clays Association’s U.S.
Open. Not only do the club’s events
put Georgetown County on the map,
but they’re also a boon for the local
economy, Morris said.
“These events are huge for the entire
county and Georgetown,” Morris said.
“The competitors and their teams eat
at our local restaurants and book all
of the motels solid.”
