             HUNTING & SPORTING CLAYS
           Experiencing the outdoors in
        Georgetown County also consists
        of hunting across acres and acres
        of public and private land.
           Four Wildlife Management Areas
        (WMAs) are within the county’s
        borders, including Samworth WMA,
        Santee Coastal WMA, Santee-Delta
        WMA and Wee Tee WMA. These
        WMAs account for nearly 40,000
        acres of managed land in and
        around Georgetown County. In
        portions of Horry, Georgetown
        and Marion counties, the
        Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge
        is roughly 29,000 acres and allows
        hunting seasonally.
           Several shooting clubs are in
        the area, providing instruction
        and training for hunters of all
        experience levels, as well as an
        array of exciting and challenging
        clay target shooting sports.

             BIRDING
           The Hammock Coast is the premier
        destination for birdwatching on the
        East Coast, according to Southern
        Living magazine. Here, hundreds of
        bird species can be spotted, from
        eagles and woodstorks to egrets
        and herons.
           Huntington Beach State Park
        has a 330-bird checklist with an
        impressive rarities roster, including
        roseate spoonbill and piping
        plover. Other locations for stellar
        birdwatching include Brookgreen
        Gardens and Hobcaw Barony.
