OUTDOOR RECREATION
Time spent being active outdoors greatly
improves quality of life. The wide-open
spaces of Jackson County give residents many
ways to get moving and enjoy nature. County
and city recreation and parks departments
provide an array of activities, facilities, and
parks to make exercise and athletics accessible
and invigorating.
Jackson County Parks and Recreation offers
a plethora of outdoor activities through its
parks and facilities. Many of the parks are
equipped with playgrounds, picnic pavilions,
walking trails, and lighted athletic fields.
Many seasonal sports are offered to children
including baseball, softball, football, soccer,
and cheerleading, among others. Some adult
leagues are available as well.
In cooperation with the Upper Oconee
Water Authority, Jackson County Parks and
Recreation maintains Bear Creek Reservoir.
The reservoir offers fishing at the public
fishing bank from dawn to dusk. Anglers can
cast a line from this specified area of the bank
or launch a boat from the boat ramp facility at
2739 Highway 330 after purchasing a daily
use ticket.
Jackson County’s premier park and a resource
for local history is Hurricane Shoals Park, a
scenic, family picnic and recreation area.
Tubing is allowed in the shoals, so bring your
family and friends, picnic baskets, bathing
