Just a bit north of Georgetown County, Myrtle Beach
State Park is one of the most popular public beaches on the
Outdoor South Carolina coast. In the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation
Corps built this 312-acre oceanfront park with the intent
Recreation Carolina coastline. The park includes campsites, cabins,
to preserve and maintain the natural heritage of the South
nearly a mile of undeveloped beach, picnic areas, a fishing
pier and nature center. The nearly mile-long nature trail
provides visitors with an opportunity to explore one of the
last remaining maritime forests (a Heritage Trust Site) on the
northern coast of South Carolina.
Hampton Plantation State Historic Site, once a flourishing
18th century rice plantation, is a well-kept symbol of early
American history with its Colonial mansion that once played
host to luminaries including George Washington and Francis
Marion. Hampton is also a great spot for discovering the
inspirational beauty of the Santee Delta – a place that shaped
the works of South Carolina’s Poet Laureate, Archibald
