Battey State Hospital, once
a nationally recognized
tuberculosis hospital, began
serving mental health patients
in 1971, and the hospital name
changed to Northwest Georgia
Regional Hospital in 1973. The
TB unit closed in 1996 and the
hospital closed in 2011.
