HOSPITAL OF ATHENS
Landmark Hospital of Athens, the area’s only long-term
acute care hospital (LTACH), opened in 2008 to serve the
Northeast Georgia community. The facility includes 42
private rooms that are all intensive care unit (ICU) capable.
Landmark Hospital is a regional referral center for
North Georgia, serving as the place for other hospitals to
send critically ill patients who need long-term acute
care. Many of its patients require long-term specialty
treatment due to multiple or complex medical conditions.
Patients range in age from 18 to the elderly. The average
length of stay for patients is 25 days. Landmark’s
specialties include: ventilator/tracheostomy weaning,
severe stroke, multi-system failure, specialized wound
care, and ulcer care. Landmark also offers in-house
physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy,
a low patient-to-staff ratio, multiple medical specialists,
a pharmacy, dietician, and chaplain.
As part of its commitment to patient safety, Landmark
Athens operates the Synexis™ Air Purifier system, which
uses hydrogen peroxide to reduce contaminants in
the air. The system is proven to reduce the spread
of COVID-19, MRSA, C. Diff, staph, e. coli, norovirus,
and influenza.
