St. Mary’s Hospital

Founded in 1906, St. Mary’s Health Care System is
Athens' first hospital and today includes three hospitals,
numerous physician practices, the region’s first medical
residency program, one of the state’s pioneering home
healthcare/hospice services, a retirement community,
extensive outpatient services, and more. It is part of
Trinity Health, one of the nation's largest Catholic
healthcare ministries.
The 196-bed St. Mary's Hospital on Baxter Street in
Athens offers emergency care, surgical services, inpatient
care, advanced diagnostics, outpatient services, critical
care and mother/baby services, an extensive range
of cardiac services, advanced stroke care with 24/7
mechanical thrombectomy capabilities, and inpatient
rehabilitative medicine.
A major part of the growing St. Mary's system is St.
Mary's Medical Group, which provides primary and specialty
care with more than 115 employed physicians and nurse
practitioners in locations across northeast Georgia.

Landmark Hospital of Athens, the area’s only long-
term acute care hospital, includes 42 private rooms that are
all intensive care unit (ICU) capable. Landmark Hospital is
a regional referral center for North Georgia, serving as the
place for other hospitals to send critically ill patients who
need long-term acute care. Many of its patients require
long-term specialty treatment due to multiple or complex
