Burke County Health Department
The Burke County Health Department promotes the health and safety
of individuals, families and communities by preventing disease, offering
care, and protecting the environment of our county. The recent community
health assessment pointed out three priorities for medical staff to address
in the county: mental health, substance abuse disorders, and obesity with
risk factors.
Residents of Burke County who do not currently have a primary care
provider may be seen for wellness screens, family planning and pregnancy
resources, immunizations, chronic health issues, and acute sick visits
by medical providers at the Burke County Health Department. Walk-ins
are accepted or appointments can be made by calling 828-764-9150.
Medicaid, Burke County Insurance, and cash payments are accepted using a
sliding scale fee.
Public pools, private wells and septic systems, restaurants, and lodging are
permitted and inspected by the Environmental Health Section of the Burke
County Health Department. Environmental Health functions as the local
government arm of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human
Services in the enforcement of state laws and rules concerning the public
health of county citizens and protection of the environment.
