acres, Lake Lanier is the largest lake in
Georgia and offers a vast array of exciting less-encountered parts of our beautiful

fishing, boating, swimming, and other
water sports. More than 7.5 million
people a year visit Lanier. With more
than 692 miles of shoreline, the lake is
renowned for its breathtaking scenery
and variety of recreational activities. Put the Hwy. 53 bridge across the Amicalola,
your boat in at War Hill Park.
“Cache” in on the fun and go
geocaching, an increasingly popular,
inclusive, fun, and healthy pastime,
great for families, friends, classes,
and youth groups working as teams.

The Dawson Forest City of Atlanta Tract
is a popular recreation area laced with
trails for hikers, mountain bikers, and
horseback riders. Six designated biking
trails, from easy to moderate, start at the
trailhead on Dawson Forest Road.
Those who enjoy feeling the spray of a
waterfall have a few to pursue in Dawson
County. Of course, there is Amicalola
Falls, which has several easily accessible
viewing spots within the state park. You
can also view the Class IV “Edge of the
World” rapids from the banks of the
Amicalola River. Take the trailhead to
the Amicalola Scenic River Trail beneath
and follow the trail ½ mile downstream.
Fall Creek Falls is a spectacular sight,
with four waterfalls, as is Cochran Falls,
600-foot vertical cascades descending
from Frosty Mountain. Visit the Dawson
