Baron Johann de Kalb
        was a Bavarian of
        wealth who joined the
        Continental Army in the
        American Revolutionary
        War. DeKalb County is
        named for him.

        Kalb was mortally wounded while
        fighting the British Army during the
        Battle of Camden in South Carolina
        in 1780. He was deemed a hero of
        the American Revolution and many
        places across the U.S. are named in
        his honor.
