Oglethorpe University was chartered by the State of Georgia
                                                                          in 1835 and is named for Georgia’s founder, James Edward
                                                                          Oglethorpe. One of its distinguished alumni is the poet, critic,
                                                                          and musician Sidney Lanier, who graduated in 1860.
