worth the trip to this 45,000-acre habitat nestled in
the Sandhills physiographic region that separates
the Piedmont Plateau and the Atlantic Coastal
Plain.

Hunting is permitted
during specific
seasons, fishing,
paddling and boats
with electric motors are
allowed on over 300
acres of water, wildlife
viewing is popular
(the refuge is home to nearly 200 species of
birds), there are 5 official hiking trails (but all areas
are open to foot traffic), and bicycling is allowed on
the more than 100 miles of sand and graveled
roads – there’s even a 17 mile bike route!

        Visitor’s Center/Office: Monday –
        Friday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Crowds: Light

Facilities: Restrooms and water available are
             only available at Visitor’s Center

Mobility: Not suitable for those with mobility
             impairments
