History
Don’t miss the Lincoln County Historical Association to learn
everything there is to know about our area. The association
encourages public interest in local history, preserves documents and
promotes the history of Lincolnton and Lincoln County, North Carolina.
A genealogy library and research office is open Thursday afternoons
and Saturday.
The association works with the Lincoln County Historic Properties
Commission to preserve the built environment by working with
owners of historic properties to designate their homes as local historic
landmarks, facilitate restoration and promote their preservation efforts.
The association also coordinates tours of privately owned historic
properties and cemeteries, and strives to educate local officials, local
historians and the general public about historic preservation. Lincoln
County retains three 18th century residences – Vesuvius Furnace
(1792), Andrew Loretz House (1793), and Woodside (1798) – and many
historic structures from the 19th and 20th centuries.
