Aerospace – Boeing’s recent location to the
Charleston area put Dorchester County in a prime
position to accommodate future growth anticipated
in the aerospace industry. Dorchester County and
the Charleston region are quickly becoming known
worldwide as a key aerospace destination. One
competitive advantage is the fact that our location is
one of only three places in the world assembling and
delivering wide-body commercial aircraft.
Automotive – South Carolina has the only North
American assembly plant for BMW, is the North
American headquarters for Michelin, is home to a
Mercedes manufacturing plant and now is home to
Volvo’s first auto manufacturing plant in North America.
Dorchester County and the Charleston region are home
to several automotive suppliers that make the area an
ideal site for auto-related industrial development.
Bioscience – As a direct result of the Medical
University of South Carolina’s (MUSC) presence and
continued growth in the Lowcountry, the biotech
industry is an emerging cluster for Dorchester County
and the Charleston region. MUSC is the region’s

11,000 employees.
