Sumter County’s towns blend history, charm, and fun. In
Americus, the Rylander Theatre and the Windsor Hotel offer
a glimpse into the past, while Georgia Southwestern State
University adds energy with athletics and events. Festivals
like First Friday, BBQ Fest, and the Americus Christmas
Parade highlight the lively downtown scene.
History buffs can explore three National Park Service sites
in Andersonville, largely centered around Civil War history:
Andersonville National Historic Site, the National Prisoner
of War Museum, and Andersonville National Cemetery. The
town also has the Drummer Boy Civil War Museum.

County Parks & Recreation Department. A community center
