he name Ranlo is a blending of the
surnames of two prominent textile
mill executives: John C. Rankin (Ran)
T and William T. Love (Lo). Ranlo and
nearby Smyre incorporated into one town
in 1963.
Known as a community Built with
Pride, one of the best things about Ranlo
is its preserved mill housing. These row
houses erected in the 1920s and ‘30s for
workers in the textile mills now house a
diverse population employed in a variety of
economic sectors.
It’s game on for summer fun at Ranlo’s
favorite cool-down spot – Ranlo Splash
Pad – next to the old Town Hall and the
ballpark. Fulbright-Wagner Memorial Park
features a skate park, walking track and
basketball court.
Residents report they love Ranlo’s
hometown feel away from the bustle of
city life in Charlotte, and they love the
Ranlo just minutes outside of town. Others
country drives in North Carolina’s foothills
laud the small-town festivals such as the
Ranlo Fall Festival each September with

Milltown Nights are hosted monthly in the
summer, bringing gospel music, bingo and
fellowship, dancing, car and motorcycle
shows and live music – theming the parties
for seniors, youth and families.
