nickname would still resonate today. Yet
residents affirm their pride in a charming
downtown with local shops and eateries,
live music most weekends, trivia nights,
music bingo and food trucks. Locals also
connect during the Cooling off Concerts
on Main over the summer and the annual
Country Fest Carnival in the fall, which
attracts thousands for music, food and
entertainment.
Recreation is found at Harper Park,
which features a splash pad and
playground, paved track and nature
trail, and sports courts and fields.
Golfers can tee off at the nearby Pine
Island Country Club.
Stanley is one of the oldest towns in the
county, with colonial roots to the 1700s.
A prospector named Stanley panned for
gold here, and the community that sprang
up along the creek became known as
Stanley’s Creek. Later, during the Civil
War, the Brevard Station railroad depot
