Additionally, Clarke County School District’s
        Athens Community Career Academy (ACCA)
is a partnership between CCSD, Athens
        Technical College, University of Georgia,
and local employers that offers high
school students opportunities to take core
academic college courses, enroll in career-
        themed college certification programs,
and participate in internships and work-
        based learning with local employers.

ACCA has five Academies that provide
students with access to smaller learning
        communities and real-world experiences
        with local businesses and community
        members. Each Academy branches into
more specific pathways in: Business and
Law, Future Educators, Health and Human
Services, Hospitality, and STEAM. A new
        Biomanufacturing pathway, driven by local
        bioscience industry partners’ engagement
and support, is under development, with
plans to launch in the next year.

Athens businesses have first access to
some of the best new talent in the state
when they participate in career fairs at
        local colleges and universities. Please
turn to page 41 for more about the
        Athens area workforce.

             TRANSPORTATION
        Athens’ businesses can take advantage
of global connectivity with the area’s
easy accessibility to all modes of
        transportation. Athens benefits from
Georgia’s roadway system, one of the
largest systems in the Southeast. Several
major state highways run through Athens,
while the major byways of Interstates 85 and
20 are easily accessed. Athens’ businesses
can reach 80 percent of the nation’s
        industrial and largest consumer markets
in fewer than two truck delivery days.

        Ride the Bus
        Athens-Clarke County Transit offers
        fare-free comprehensive bus service
throughout the county. Most bus riders
download the mySTOP app where you can
check the real-time status and location of
a bus, and locate bus stops and routes.
All buses are accessible, with room for
two wheelchairs and two bikes. Buses run
seven days a week, but do not operate on
major holidays. About half the buses in
the fleet are hybrid electric as they replace
        older buses. Visit: accgov.com/transit.
