Spots, Stripes, and Conservation
When some area wild animals are
injured, rescued or rehabilitated but
cannot survive in the wild, Bear
Hollow Zoo becomes home. Set in
Memorial Park, zoo staff care for 50
species including: black bear, river
otter, red fox, American alligator, deer,
owl, and a reptile house. The zoo is
managed by Athens-Clarke County
Leisure Services and is open daily 9-5;
free admission.

Music
Athens is an oasis of musical
inspiration. It exploded in the late
'70s when the B-52s and R.E.M. took
the world by storm. It never slowed
down, producing renowned bands like
Widespread Panic, Drive-By Truckers,
and Of Montreal, to name a few, while
providing the perfect live venue for
defining era bands like Nirvana, The
Black Crowes, and Pearl Jam in their

Legendary clubs like the 40 Watt Right: Georgia Museum of Art
Club, The Foundry, and The Georgia
Theatre shine their spotlights on bands.
