Hampton Square District

            Living is comfortable and easy.
Here’s where we have chosen to call home.

One of the original town squares laid out in 1798,
this lush, green district is anchored by Hampton
Park, named in honor of South Carolina
General Wade Hampton. For more than
200 years, it has been a public gathering place.
Stroll past gracious homes and historic churches,
and note a central focal point: the “horse trough”
drinking fountain. Originally positioned at the
center of town in the intersection of Broad and
DeKalb Streets, it was designed for use by
“man and beast” and honors Camden Civil War
hero Sergeant Richard Kirkland.
