MUSEUMS, TOURS and HISTORIC SITES
Through a collection of artifacts and images housed in the restored 1902
Wilkes County Courthouse, the Wilkes Heritage Museum tells the many
stories of early settlement, military history, industry, agriculture, medicine,
communication, education, entertainment, and transportation.
The free, self-guided Wilkesboro Architecture Walking Tour
stops at 13 buildings that collectively reveal the character of the town
of Wilkesboro as it developed. Each site serves as an example of the
distinctive styling and culture of its time. The buildings are within walking
distance, and each is included in the National Register of Historic Places.
